Description

Spiritual Masters: Living and Praying in the Catholic Tradition by Archbishop Alfred Hughes introduces readers to thirteen of Christianity's great spiritual writers, drawing on centuries of Catholic wisdom to offer a practical path towards deeper prayer, holiness, and discipleship.

Each chapter focuses on the teaching of a particular saint or spiritual master and explores a different aspect of growing in intimacy with God. Rather than treating these classic works simply as historical texts, Archbishop Hughes shows how their wisdom can be applied to the ordinary steps of Christian life today.

Readers are introduced to the spirituality of St Augustine, St Anthony of the Desert, St Aelred, St Teresa of Avila, St Benedict, Guigo, St Catherine of Siena, Walter Hilton, St Francis de Sales, St Ignatius of Loyola, Jean-Pierre de Caussade, Thomas à Kempis, and St John of the Cross.

Accessible to those encountering these spiritual masters for the first time, the book also serves as a guide to a much wider library of Catholic spiritual writing, encouraging readers to continue exploring the works that have formed generations of Christians.

A valuable companion for anyone seeking to deepen their prayer life and grow more faithfully in discipleship.
