Description

He Leadeth Me is the remarkable spiritual memoir of Father Walter J. Ciszek, a Jesuit priest whose life of faith was tested under some of the most severe conditions of the twentieth century. Through personal reflection and quiet honesty, the book recounts how trust in God sustained him through years of imprisonment and hardship.

Captured by the Russian army during the Second World War and accused of being a “Vatican spy,” Father Ciszek spent more than two decades in Soviet prisons and labour camps in Siberia. In the midst of isolation, physical suffering, and uncertainty, he discovered that true freedom lay in surrendering completely to the will of God.

Rather than focusing solely on the hardships of captivity, the memoir explores the interior journey of faith that unfolded during those years. Through prayer, contemplation, and acceptance of God’s providence, Father Ciszek found the strength to endure and even transform suffering into a deeper union with Christ.

Widely regarded as a modern spiritual classic, He Leadeth Me offers a powerful testimony of perseverance, humility, and unwavering trust in God.
