All Saints and All Souls: The Month of the Saints and the Faithful Departed

All Saints and All Souls: The Month of the Saints and the Faithful Departed

On 1 November, the Church celebrates All Saints’ Day, honouring all the saints in heaven — both known and unknown. It’s a reminder that holiness is possible for each of us, no matter our state in life, and that the saints intercede for us continually before God.

The following day, 2 November, is All Souls’ Day, and throughout the month of November we pray especially for the faithful departed — our family members, friends, and all souls in purgatory.

Many Catholics keep a pious list — a list of the names of deceased loved ones they wish to be remembered in prayer and at Masses throughout November. We encourage you to prepare yours and offer it at your parish, so that together we may pray for the eternal rest of those who have gone before us in faith.
