Advent Is Rushing By – Make It Count

Advent Is Rushing By – Make It Count

Advent, derived from the Latin word "adventus," meaning "coming," is a season of anticipation and preparation. It reminds us to celebrate the first coming of Christ while also looking ahead to His second coming. Historically, Advent begins on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, which falls on 30 November, and it encompasses four Sundays. This year Advent began on 1 December - but it's not too late to make it fruitful!

Each week of Advent carries profound meaning:

  • The First Sunday of Advent focuses on the Lord's coming at the end of time, encouraging vigilance and preparation for His return.
  • The Second and Third Sundays of Advent reflect on John the Baptist’s call to repentance, highlighting hope and transformation.
  • The Fourth Sunday of Advent turns our attention to Mary, the Annunciation, and her acceptance of God's plan, leading up to the birth of Jesus.

While Advent often feels like it flies by, there’s still time to have a meaningful and fruitful season. Our resources are not only perfect for this year but can be cherished and used for years to come.
